The Association of Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Singapore (ABPS) was officially registered with the Registry of Societies (ROS) on 7 January 2020. Although ABPS is a new legal entity established in 2020, it carries forward the heritage, community, and sporting legacy of the Singapore Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (SBBF), which laid the foundation for bodybuilding excellence in Singapore since 1962, and continues to build upon this strong tradition through structured governance and international affiliations.

From the 1970s through the 1990s, under the SBBF era, Singapore experienced a golden age in bodybuilding. During this period, Singaporean athletes achieved significant success at Southeast Asian, Asian, and World Championships, establishing the nation’s reputation in the international bodybuilding community.

Notable athletes from this era include:

• Rohmat Juraimi — Overall Champion at Mr Asia 1973 and 6th place at the World Championships.
• Fatholomein Ali — Multiple-time regional gold medallist, widely recognised for his exceptional posing.
• Azman Abdullah — Singapore’s only Mr Universe titleholder, with multiple international gold medals in 1993.
• Abdul Halim Haron, Ibrahim Sihat, Simon Chua, Vincent Ng, Augustine Lee, and Agnes Lee — all of whom represented Singapore under SBBF and were consistent medallists at regional and continental competitions.

These accomplishments firmly positioned Singapore as a respected force in international bodybuilding, known for both competitive excellence and sportsmanship.

Today, ABPS serves as a national platform dedicated to the governance, development, and promotion of bodybuilding and physique sports in Singapore. The Association is affiliated with the World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation, Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation, and Southeast Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation, providing athletes with recognised pathways to compete at Southeast Asian, Asian, and World Championships under an established international framework.

Guided by experienced leadership and international federations, including President of World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation, Datuk Paul Chua and Past ABPS presidents and current advisors, Mr Richard Teng, Mr Alan Ng (Rocky) and Mr M Letchmenon s/o Mariappan (current Honorary Secretary), ABPS focuses on athlete development, fair competition standards, and community engagement.

Through structured pathways, partnerships with gyms and coaches, and a commitment to integrity and excellence, ABPS aims to strengthen Singapore’s presence in bodybuilding and physique sports, enabling future generations to build on the strong foundation established during the SBBF era.

The Association of Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Singapore (ABPS) is a duly registered society under the Registry of Societies (ROS) and operates as the recognised national platform affiliated with the World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation, Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation, and Southeast Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation. Through these affiliations, ABPS provides Singapore athletes with structured and legitimate pathways to participate in regional and international championships sanctioned by these governing bodies.

ABPS respects the presence of other fitness and bodybuilding-related entities operating in Singapore. However, such entities may function as private organisations, event promoters, or commercial enterprises, and may not necessarily be registered societies or hold affiliations with the above-mentioned federations. In this regard, ABPS remains committed to upholding proper governance, transparency, and athlete representation within a recognised organisational and international framework.
