The Association of Bodybuilding and Physique Sports (ABPS) was officially registered with the Registry of Societies (ROS) on 7 January 2020. While young in name, our roots trace back to 1962 with the formation of the Singapore Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (SBBF)—an era that produced some of the most celebrated athletes in Asian bodybuilding history.

From the 1970s through the 1990s, Singapore enjoyed a golden age in bodybuilding. Under visionary leadership, our athletes dominated at the Southeast Asian, Asian, and World Championships:

• Rohmat Juraimi — Overall Champion at Mr Asia 1973 and 6th place at the World Championships.

• Fatholomein Ali — Multiple-time regional gold medallist, renowned as one of Asia’s most skilled posers.

• Azman Abdullah — The only Singaporean to win the prestigious Mr Universe title, alongside four other international gold medals in 1993.

• Abdul Halim Haron, Ibrahim Sihat, Simon Chua, Vincent Ng, Augustine Lee, Agnes Lee, and many others — consistent medallists across Southeast Asian and Asian competitions, flying the Singapore flag high on the global stage.

These achievements placed our small nation firmly on the world bodybuilding map, earning respect for both our athletes’ physiques and their sportsmanship.

ABPS was founded to honour this proud legacy while charting a modern, athlete-focused future—one grounded in our values of excellence, integrity, and community. Our leadership team brings together experienced professionals from diverse backgrounds, guided by respected figures such as our Advisor, Datuk Paul Chua, President of the World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation (WBPF) and the Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation (ABBF), and our former President, Mr Letchmenon s/o Mariappan, an experienced leader in both local and international sports.

In line with our vision to unite Singapore in celebrating bodybuilding and physique sports, ABPS provides clear and fair pathways for athletes—from grassroots competitions to Southeast Asian, Asian, and World Championships. We work closely with gyms, coaches, and partners to deliver events, education, and development programmes that strengthen the sport at every level.

By engaging our community, nurturing future champions, and upholding the highest standards of sportsmanship, ABPS is committed to restoring Singapore’s presence on the regional and global stage, ensuring that the next generation can build on the legacy of our past champions.
